If you don't mind the noise, get speedfan and set the ideal temperature (dunno what it's actually called) thing to 38c or something :p. The previous intel core 2 duo e8400 chip pcstats tested managed a good 1.05ghz overclock, so the core 2 duo e8500 should be capable pushing things at least that far.
